I realised that there is a better way to memorise the 4 rules:

Find x in the equation 2 + x = 10.

Wrong: Shift the 2 from the LHS to RHS and change the sign > x = 10 - 2

Correct: Subtract 2 from both sides > 2 + x - 2 = 10 - 2

Answer:                                                                  x = 8
