"How to write an algebraic expression from the problem?"

"Dad/Mum, can you teach/show me how to form an algebraic equation from the question?"

Have you ever asked these?

Bridging from Model to Algebra in Problem Solving

I am a private tutor, who is currently teaching the secondary Elementary & Additional Mathematics in Singapore. Recently my Sec 1 students did very well in their examinations as I imposed my new methodology for the topic of 'Algebra' since the beginning of this year. Smile

Quite often, before secondary school teachers teaching the topic of Algebra, they ask the Sec 1 students to forget or "throw away" the model method (what the students have learnt in the pst 6 years in Primary school). It is definitely a wrong strategy. In fact, there is a close link between the two.

  • I collected a total of 30 problem solving questions which are required to be solved by 30 different types of model drawings.
  • Solve them using the Algebraic method.
  • Add in the links, hints and full explanations.

My students are able to understand the two methods well. They have no problem in writting/forming algebraic expressions and equations in any problem solving questions.

If you (individual student/parent) would like to know the secret formula. Email me and I will reply you asap.

I am sharing my useful tips for FREE for each topic in my blog weekly.  Please bookmarks this page for your future visits.
